After the 2nd Presidential debate of 2008...

I watched the entire debate, took notes, etc. It was a pretty good debate. Here's some ramblings on it.

Tom Brokaw, probably one of my favorite news reporters of all time, did a very good job in keeping neutral in the debate. He tried to keep the one minute cap on answers, but Obama and McCain both had major trouble with it. Additionally, keeping them from having follow-up's proved to be a sore note, as both ended up with at least one followup during the debate (about two-thirds the way through).

When Obama pressed for a follow-up to McCain's answer to a question, McCain said, "If he wants a follow-up, I want follow-ups." Brokaw responded by saying, "Then, let's have follow-ups... I'm just hired help." Classic Brokaw, moment.

Also during the debate, in talking about the mortgage crisis and the deregulation of the industry, Obama brought up about the banks in Delaware and how laws are loose in terms of regulating the banks. But, Obama's VP, Joe Biden, is a senior 35-year incumbent Senator from Delaware. So, why hasn't VP Joe done anything to regulate those ole banks? Hmmmm...

From an AP FactCheck:

McCAIN: Said Obama had voted for tax increases "94 times."

THE FACTS: This inflated count, heard before, includes repetitive votes as well as votes to cut taxes for the middle class while raising them on the rich. An analysis by factcheck.org found that 23 of the votes were for measures that would have produced no tax increase at all, seven were in favor of measures that would have lowered taxes for many, 11 would have increased taxes on only those making more than $1 million a year.

This factcheck was very liberal. In fact, it is incorrect. A repetitive vote, a tax increase for the rich (with a decrease for middle class), seven for lowered taxes for many (and raised them for many, too, I'm sure) and 11 votes for higher taxes for those making more than one million is STILL A VOTE! A VOTE IS A VOTE!
